Exact same issue here. No engine trails, all turrets in the middle of the dominix (you can see the shot trails coming from within the domi to targets) and sometimes when in fleet, the shots come out from other ships, or even are shot towards other...

I think ladar/radar/gravimetrics do not track ship engine emissions. More like gravity distortion and just regular radar waves bouncing of things. Plus we already have a cloaking device, I can't see the need for another one.
